Create a welcome page for your facebook fanpage using developers’ tool

I have been looking so long for a tutorial on how to create a facebook fanpage welcome tab using the developers’ tool. But unfortunately I couldn’t  find any. So that’s why I’m writing this tutorial. I hope this will help a lot  those who are looking for a basic tutorial on this.

First of all, you need to setup your welcome page in a .html or .php (or anything that you are comfortable with) extension (a web page). You could include any type of information(images, videos, flash, audios, contact forms etc) in it. Just note that the document width should be restricted to 500px.

Once you have finished your welcome page, upload the whole files to your server. Now follow the steps shown below to do the magic.

Login to your facebook account. On the home page, go to the bottom section and find the Developers link. Click on that and there you go with the first step.

Now you can see a welcome page for the Facebook Developers’ tool. So you can find the My Apps menu on the top of the page. Click on that.

As I said earlier, we are doing the welcome tab using the facebook developers’ kit. So click on the Set Up New App button to get started.

Here, you could name your application. But note that this don’t have any effect in the future since this is for your personal use only. Click the Agree and then Create Application.

Yeah!!!  Developer kit also got the spam killer So get the security check corrected by correctly entering the CAPTCHA code.

So you are almost there. Click on the Facebook Integration menu in the left side of the page.

Here the Canvas page will be the home page of your Application profile. Note that this field should be an alphanumerical value. No integer value is accepted. The Canvas URL will be the URL to which you have uploaded the welcome page files. So give the location in the field. Note the last  ’/’ symbol should be there. Here, you don’t need to give the index.html (or your file name) along with the URL.

Tab Name will be the name for your Tab in the fanpage. So better, give it the name ‘Welcome‘. The Tab URL should be the file name of the welcome page you have created. Once you finished these fields, push the Save Changes button. That’s all :0

Now you can see the Directory status page of your application.

Click on the Application Profile Page link in the right side of the page. This is to set up the welcome page to your fanpage.

Now you can see the default home page for the application that you have created. So click on the Add to My Page in the left side of the page. This will pop up a new window and there you can select the Fanpage for which you need to insert the welcome page.

Click on the Add to Page button corresponding to the fanpage for which you need to set up the Welcome Tab.

That’s all. Now you go to your fanpage and there you can see the new Tab called Welcome. Click on that and you can see the Welcome page you have created. Yeah..!!! Wow You have done that!

So now, if your users need to see the Welcome page as the default landing page for the fanpage, then you could follow the below steps. Go to the Wall tab and click on the Edit Page button in the right top portion.

On the Manage Permission tab, you can change the default landing page to the new Welcome tab that you have created.
